Just look at the pie chart to the left. You see the single biggest portion of spending in the federal budget? Yeah, that's what our so-called deficit hawks refuse to touch. My question: For how long can they continue to be taken seriously as caring about the deficit, if they are unwilling to even entertain the notion of cutting our single biggest expenditure?
As Eugene Robinso writes in today's Washington Post:
"The United States accounts for 46.5 percent of the world's total defense spending, according to a widely accepted recent estimate. The next-biggest spender is China, which has undertaken an immense buildup to become a military as well as economic superpower - yet accounts for just 6.6 percent of the world's total."

It's about time real across the board cuts were given full consideration by the people supposedly concerned about such things. Instead of simply attacking spending supported by the left, these so-called deficit hawks would do themselves (and us) a favor if they were to put forward actual plans of what they would cut. Hell, if they can find enough to cut, maybe they could make a case for their ill-conceived tax cuts for the wealthy.

" Human rights campaigners call it torture. Relatives of those who died in the 7/7 London bombings believe it can help prevent similar atrocities.
The Sun's Oliver Harvey agreed to brave the brutal process to describe what it is like.
He was filmed and you can watch the video below.
Here is his grim report."
The United States has prosecuted soldiers before for the use of this torture technique, and yet the Bush administration continues to enjoy a free pass.
